http://www.mapmedia.co.uk/ launched 2 November 1998 Map Media, a revolutionary new mapping service, launched on 2 November, delivers low-cost UK regional media coverage maps exclusively over the World Wide Web. Developed by AdWeb, JICREG and Beacon Dodsworth, Map Media facilitates fast, low-cost regional press campaign planning. Users can define the area they wish to map, choose one of three formats they would like the map in (.wmf, .gif, .bmp) and the completed map is e-mailed back to them in minutes. Drive time catchments of postcode sectors can be created for any number of minutes, from any of the 9,000 sectors in the country. Readership reports can be run for any combination of sectors. A readership map can be an area defined by the user, a drive time catchment, or any one of the many media boundaries available (ISBA, newspaper, circulation, ITV region, Independent Local Radio area etc.) Map Media uses JICREG readership data - the definitive media planning and buying currency for the regional press. The web site has been designed and built by AdWeb and Beacon Dodsworth have used their Prospex mapping software to produce the maps and drive times. An individual map or regional newspaper readership report costs just �15. A multi-map subscription is available for �150 for 16 maps/readership reports, while an annual unlimited use subscription costs �5,950. Users can purchase maps securely with their credit cards (Access or Visa) over the Internet, off-line in advance by cheque or may open an account directly with Map Media. The online payment service uses encryption and state-of-the-art security to enable users to use their credit cards safely. All security is handled by UUNet and the Nat West Bank.
