The Technology behind MapVision

The Technology behind MapVision web:mapper

Many digital map data can be used in a MapVision application. Raster based map data can be watermarked to satisfy copyright requirements. Using vector data the combination of extensible mark up language with new graphics formats enables effortless web-based mapping.

Two Vector Graphics packages Vector Markup Language (VML) and Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) allow you to view maps and interact with them online.

eXtended Markup Language (XML) allows you to cache data for a faster navigation and a lighter load.

XML is an easily implemented format that can be simply interconverted. It allows client side processing, improving reliability and increasing speed. Because XML is extensible it allows customer mapping systems to be more quickly developed and new features more easily incorporated.

Vector Graphics are scalable, editable and allow user interaction. Accurate mapping data is transferred in an acceptable amount of bandwidth. VML is built into Internet Explorer 5.5 with no plug-in required. You can interact with your maps, changing colours and style, zooming in and changing the size of objects. VML Maps can be easily copied and pasted into MS Office 2000/XP. Imported maps are treated as native PowerPoint objects allowing easy editing and animation using a familiar skills set.

Being web based is vital to the success of the MapVision web:mapper; this ensures that any data can always be up to date and any solution can be used on any PC with web access and a compatible browser.
