AdminView administrative boundaries
AdminView provides administrative boundaries for the UK, broken down into output areas, super output areas, wards, local authorities, counties, parliamentary constituencies and Primary Care Trusts. Install AdminView into a geographic information system (GIS), such as Prospex to create administrative boundary catchments for your public or private sector planning tasks.

Using 2001 Census data
All the boundaries in AdminView are built using 2001 Census output areas rather than postcode geography. Improving the resolution and joining them to a detailed UK coastline, Beacon Dodsworth rebuilt these boundaries for use in any GIS, allowing the finest resolution of data analysis.
As well as wards and local authorities, output areas are contained within boundaries of counties, parliamentary constituencies, health authorities and Primary Care Trusts, forming a hierarchical structure.
The table below illustrates the hierarchical structure of these data. Super output areas are made up of output areas. Counties are made up of local authorities, which are made up of Census Area Statistics (CAS) wards, which are again made up of output areas. Strategic Health Authorities (SHAs) are made up of Primary Care Trusts (PCTs). Both PCTs and European Electoral Region are made up of output areas. All these data are built from Government Office Regions (GORs).
Administrative boundaries structure
Output area < super output area < local authority < county < GOR
Output area < CAS ward < local authority < county < GOR
Output area < PCT < SHA < GOR
Output area < parliamentary constituency < European Electoral Region
What can I use AdminView for?
AdminView can be used in conjunction with Census data to look at trends in people at great depth, which is particularly useful for health needs assessment and social planning. For some marketing and planning applications, administrative boundaries are the only building blocks fine enough to answer local questions. Local authorities and government bodies use AdminView with Census data to measure administration units and map catchments.
AdminView also helps you to visualise data from the Office for National Statistics, General Register Office for Scotland and the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency, such as the Index of Multiple Deprivation and Mid Year Population Estimates.
Accurate short drive times
Prospex installed with AdminView uses output area boundaries to work out short drive times (e.g. five minutes and under) that cannot be done at postcode sector level (because the drive across a postcode sector usually takes more than five minutes). For example, Vision Express uses AdminView and Prospex to work out accurate short drive times to their stores. To do this, Vision Express combine AdminView in Prospex with a detailed digital road network data, such as Ordnance Survey or NAVTEQ data sets.
