Ask yourself:
- Are you looking to impact the health of your local community?
- Do you want to improve your social marketing / media awareness campaigns?
- Do you want to look objectively at health trends without the skew of age or wealth demographics?

Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) have now been integrated with our P2 People & Places people classification thanks to some hard work from our clever developers.
This means you can now better understand the health needs of local communities and populations and identify trends and patterns in order to target health improvement more effectively.
And, as the HES data is standardised, there is no skew or bias due to age or wealth meaning you get a true and accurate diagnosis of the health of your target population.
What is HES data?
Hospital episode statistics details all admissions into NHS hospitals in England. It includes private patients treated in NHS hospitals, patients who were resident outside of England and care delivered by treatment centres funded by the NHS. HES also contains details of all NHS outpatient appointments in England. Hospital episode statistics includes clinical information about diagnoses and operations, information about the patient, administrative information (such as time waited) and geographical information on where the patient was treated and the area in which they lived.
How can I use it?
Facts about individual patients are confidential, of course, however as the data has now been coded into P2, our people classification, you can establish trends and understand patterns allowing you to tailor you social marketing or media awareness campaigns. Perhaps you want to identify areas or age groups that may be at risk of lung cancer in order to target smoking cessation aids at these groups?
