General News > Competition: It started with a GIS…
February 7, 2012
…and there’s a prize! Not just any prize either… A Celebration Gift Box from Betty’s!
Maps don’t always start with ‘m’. These ones start with ‘ll’, ‘ch’, ‘st’… Can you identify which is which?
The thinking behind this post and this competition, is how easy it is to produce results from the ‘under the hood’ technology created by our clever developers.
Last time I used this technology to show places ending in “thorpe” then places ending in “thwaite”.
This time, simply changing a few parameters enabled me to create several maps showing places whose names started with the letters: BA, CH, P, V, LL and ST (note that “ST “ refers to ‘Saint’ as in St. Albans rather than ‘ST’ as in Stockport).
Now for the competition part…
The animated map below forms the questions.
All you have to do is match each map to the starting letters of the highlighted place names shown on that map. For example
Map 1 – LL
Map 2 – P
Map 3 – ST
Map 4 – BA
Map 5 – V
Map 6 – CH
(This of course is not the correct answer!)
The winner will be the first email opened with the correct answer (emails will be opened at random on the 1st March 2012).
Email your answers to marketing@beacon-dodsworth.co.uk.
Oh and don’t forget to include a delivery address with your entry otherwise we won’t be able to send you the Betty’s goodies!
See the individual maps as a PDF: Individual maps PDF
Some hints: it is possible to identify some of the correct answers from these maps alone however it might help to consult other sources. Users of our GIS system Prospex will be at an advantage here!
Good luck!
